While Auburn is known for beer, mountains and wide open spaces, we also have some spectacular waterfalls! Thanks to a big influx of rain, it’s now waterfall season… Here are some you won’t want to miss.
Hidden Falls Regional Park
Of course Hidden Falls is at the top of the list! This expansive park features trails for many abilities, and is great for hikers and mountain bikers. The hike to hidden falls features half fire road and half single track trail, with easy to moderate difficulty. This waterfall flows year round, but it’s really spectacular right now. Make sure to make a reservation for parking for weekend and holiday visits- they can only be purchased online. Read more here: https://www.placer.ca.gov/6106/Hidden-Falls-Regional-Park
Beer pairing suggestion: Veedels Brau Kolsch, or Renewed Powers lager- you’ll crave refreshment after this hike!
Western States trail to Calcutta Falls
The famed Western States trail features in many of the hikes you can do around Auburn, and this is just one of the options. Starting from the confluence of the North and Middle fork of the American River, travel over the No Hands bridge, and Calcutta Falls is just over a mile down the trail. You’ll take in gorgeous views of the American River canyon on the way. This trail is easy, however it is a little muddy and puddle-filled right now, so wear your wellies. Parking on weekends can be a challenge- get there early or visit during the week.
Beer pairing suggestion: No Hands IPA
Middle Fork American River Quarry Trail
This level-grade trail follows the path of what was once a limestone quarry, and the railway that transported the limestone to Auburn for concrete production. This trail is wide, and mostly level, great for kids and dogs, with river views the whole way. The trail culminates with a stunning view of the carved limestone quarry.
Parking is $10, just up the hill from the confluence toward Cool.
Beer pairing suggestion: Blood Simple Blood Orange Hefewizen or Beyond Cool Keller Kolsch
We hope you enjoy those trails! If you did, tag and let us know!
Cheers,
Teresa
